Gift to the city's cyclists

On the occasion of the Cyclist Association's 75th anniversary, the municipality is opening safe and smart bicycle parking in Kittelsbukt, at the Tyholmen car park. Bike lockers are the market's safest bike parking, and the concept gives cyclists access to a dedicated bike locker via app.

-          We hope that the new bicycle box can reduce concerns about bicycle theft and get more people to choose a bicycle when they travel to the center of Arendal, says Arendal mayor Robert Cornels Nordli.

-          We are at the start of this year's cycling season, there have never been so many expensive bikes on the roads and insurance payouts for stolen bikes[1] have never been higher. Therefore, this is the perfect gift for us and the city's cyclists, says Olav Fjeld Kraugerud of the Cyclist Association.

With Bikely, cyclists can book a locker before leaving home. They can safely lock bicycles and other equipment in the locker, and in the app they get an easy overview of their parking spaces. The goal is for the bike box in Kittelsbukt to be the first of several bike boxes in Arendal municipality.

Bicycle parking in the middle of Smørøy

-          Now residents can park their bikes safely when taking the bus, shopping or going into the city centre, says Ragnhild Hammer in Arendal municipality.

The bicycle lockers are deployed next to a public transport hub with buses to Grimstad and Kristiansand, among others. This means that public transport passengers can cycle to the stop and park it safely in the bicycle locker. Alti Shopping Center and other service offers in the center are also not far away. The location is therefore also excellent for those planning shorter visits to the city centre. Arendal municipality can monitor usage in a digital dashboard that will give indications of which target groups will use the offer the most.

-          It is important that cyclists in Arendal can be confident that their bike is safe while they travel in the center or commute to work. The location is therefore exciting as it can meet both those who want short-term and longer parking. We look forward to following the development, says general manager Hallvar Bergh at Bikely.

Bikely offers safe bicycle parking in 23 Norwegian municipalities, from Kristiansand in the south to Tromsø in the north. The app has been downloaded approximately 12,000 times, and the company has contributed to 30,000 safe bicycle parking spaces since its launch in May 2020. The company is headquartered in Trondheim and production takes place locally.
